Abstract:
As China's urbanization accelerates, metropolitan fringe areas as the special zones in the urbanization process have gradually become research hotspots. Against the backdrop of increasingly diverse urban functional spillover in these areas, this study investigates the typology of urban-serving rural villages and pathways for industrial system upgrades in metropolitan fringe zones. Taking villages in the fringe areas of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province as research subjects, this paper conducted field surveys and questionnaire-based research to analyze the current industrial status and existing challenges. Based on developmental characteristics, this paper identified eight types of urban-serving rural villages: cultural-sports entertainment, health-wellness, leisure-experience, artistic creation, conference-team building, specialty dining, live-streaming e-commerce, and characteristic agriculture. Spatial distribution patterns were analyzed using ArcGIS-based spatial analysis methods, and development potential assessments were performed. The study proposes upgrade pathways including macrolevel industrial guidance, village-specific feature cultivation, infrastructure enhancement, operational capacity improvement for key stakeholders, and industrial system optimization-aiming to provide actionable strategies for rural industrial development in Shenyang's fringe areas and beyond.
