Abstract:
Residential historic blocks embody a dual heritage value as both living repositories of urban historical evolution and dynamic communities sustaining contemporary livelihoods. Distinct from commercially oriented heritage sites, their conservation and regeneration present complex socio-spatial challenges that demand integrated governance solutions. This study examines the adaptive reuse of Jianchuan Ancient Town in Dali through the lens of ’renewal units’ and ’management units’ theoretical frameworks. A three-tiered technical roadmap is proposed, integrating community-centric management unit demarcation, adaptive conservation-regeneration models, and functional zoning strategies. The methodology emphasizes phased implementation guided by unit-level governance principles, balancing heritage preservation with socio-economic revitalization. Findings demonstrate measurable improvements in both built heritage integrity and community livability, offering transferable insights for sustainable management of analogous residential historic districts.
