Abstract:
The marginal small towns are facing difficulties such as lagging development and population outflow. The ‘marginalization’ of their spatial location and economic development aggravates the difficulty of their shrinking, transformation, and development. By analyzing the key points of the shrinking development of marginal small towns based on the regional pattern and integrating factor resources, the study attempts to implant the planning concepts of ‘vines city’ and ‘human settlement environment science’. Taking Chengkou County of Chongqing as an example, this paper puts forward the idea of ‘organization and structuring’. On this basis, it builds a detail implementation path:(1) By optimizing the urban spatial network system, creating a core logistics space in the north, and building an ecological conservation security pattern to achieve the benefit growth of regional ‘differentiated’ development. (2) By innovating the whole area complex tourism, revitalizing the development of industries in different places, migrating and replacing county population, improving living space with high quality, and integrating diverse regional cultures have realized the ‘structural’ space contraction of the town itself. The theoretical framework and practice of the research on the shrinkage development of Chengkou County can provide reference for the transformation and development of related marginal small towns.
